Enrichment Curriculum
Art
Our art program at GCA is innovative, creative and lots of fun!
Students are introduced to the many artistic styles and techniques employed as
well as materials and mediums used. Along with hands-on projects, various artists
are studied and select works from their portfolio are critiqued. There's never
a dull moment in art!
Computer
Technical skills are essential in this day and age, and our computer
program at GCA strives to equip students with these critical skills. Lessons go
beyond simple keyboarding drills, to include instruction in word processing, spreadsheet
design and entry, and even graphic design. Younger children use programs on the
computer to reinforce basic skills such as phonics, reading, and math while upper
grades use logic programs to hone their thinking and reasoning skills.
Music
At GCA, music is greatly appreciated and enjoyed by all. Weekly
music classes include instruction in music theory, chimes and chorus. The productions
performed by the children throughout the year are a wonderful testament to our
music program.
Physical Education
It's hard to define where the instruction ends and the fun begins
in PE. Children are immersed in numerous activities that build both strength and
endurance as well as camaraderie and sportsmanship. Westside has a large multi-purpose
area available for inside instruction and play and the South Gwinnett Athletic
Complex, located right behind the school, provides plenty of room for outside
training and games.
Spanish
Spanish instruction begins in the early years, with an exposure to the language, and continues through Upper School as mastery begins. A variety of techniques are used to immerse the children in the Spanish language, helping them comprehend and gain a better understanding. At GCA we believe that an early start helps pave the way for future success.
